Class AAA Girls

100 Meter Dash
A lightning fast 100 Meter Final saw Capital's Candace Morris blast out to the lead and not relinquish it, finishing in 12.13, just missing the State Meet Record. That run does give her the 6th Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the 4th Best All-Time Class AAA State Meet Performance. Wheeling Park's Marlee Porter closed well to take 2nd in 12.20 which gives her the 9th Best All-Time Class AAA State Meet Performance. Jefferson's Hailey Dillow scored a very strong 12.25 for 3rd, which just misses the AAA Top 10 list. University's Sierra Lanham grabs 4th in 12.49, just ahead of Huntington's Ciera Thacker in 12.53 and Bridgeport's Anaiya Jackson in 12.57. All 8 were under 12.65.
RunWV's Current Score: 4 of 6.

Morgantown's Irene Riggs staked an early lead, taking the first lap in 1:08. She was followed by teammates Lea Hatcher and Jennifer O'Palko, Cabell Midland's Emma Jenkins, Martinsburg's Emily Beck, and Preston's Allie Martin. At the 800, it was Riggs all alone at 2:23. Hatcher remained solidly in 2nd. The very tight race for 3rd was O'Palko, Jenkins, University's Caroline Kirby, and Martin. After 3 laps, Riggs was well out front in 3:40. Hatcher was still very solidly in 2nd. Martin had moved into 3rd with O'Palko 4th, Kirby 5th, and Jenkins 6th. On the final lap, Riggs cruised home for the win in 4:56.32 which is the 8th Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the 7th Best All-time Class AAA State Meet Performance. Hatcher was easily 2nd in 5:02.12. Kirby had a nice last lap to move up to 3rd in 5:09.92. Martin was 4th in 5:11.28 with O'Palko 5th in 5:12.99. University's Mia Murray made a last lap pass to take 6th in 5:21.99.

3200 Meter Run
Morgantown's Irene Riggs led the field through lap 1 in 1:15. Preston's Allie Martin was in 2nd at 1:16 with that time matched by University's Caroline Kirby, Morgantown's Jennifer O'Palko, University's Mia Murray, and Hurricane's Asha Bora. Those six quickly got away from the rest of the field. After two laps, it was Riggs at 2:35, Kirby at 2:38, Martin at 2:39 with Murray and O'Palko also at 2:39, and Bora at 2:40. After 3 laps, Riggs was pretty much gone, coming through at 3:52. Kirby was in 2nd with a small gap over Martin in 3rd. Murray was in 4th, O'Palko 5th, and Bora 6th. At the mid-way point, Riggs was at 5:12 and away from the field. Kirby was in 2nd with a gap still there. Murray had moved into 3rd with Martin 4th and O'Palko 5th. Martin had moved back into 3rd and established a small gap on Murray in 4th and O'Palko in 5th. They had now gotten a bit away form Bora in 6th. After 6 laps, it was Riggs extending her lead, coming through at 8:00. Kirby remained 2nd with the gap still in place. Martinsburg's Mason Willow was 4th in 15.86 with Huntington's Irkia Watts 5th in 15.96. John Marshall's Camryn Mowder took the final spot in 16.13. One of my predicted placers scratched the event.
RunWV's Current Score: 32 of 42.

300 Meter Low Hurdles
In one of the highlight races of the week, Hurricane's Lily Haught and Wheeling Park's Marlee Porter dueled down the stretch with Haught just nipping Porter at the line, 44.01 to 44.02. Haught's time is the 5th Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the 4th Best All-Time Class AAA State Meet Performance. Porter's time is the 6th Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the 5th Best All-Time Class AAA State Meet Performance. Parkersburg's Lily Wharton ran a strong 3rd in 45.52, not far ahead of teammate Addison Gherke in 4th with a 45.69. Oak Hill's Kiya Babkirk was 5th in 47.69, and Musselman's Madison Gray took 6th in 48.43.
RunWV's Current Score: 38 of 48.

4x100 Meter Relay
Jefferson's squad of Jordan Carr, Trinity Blue, Lorelie Bangit, and Hailey Dillow blasted through in 49.86 to take the win. Hurricane kept it close at 50.38 for 2nd. Wheeling Park was 3rd in 51.27. Spring Mills took 4th in 51.50. Morgantown was 5th in 51.92 with Huntington in 6th at 52.06

4x200 Meter Relay
Jefferson again plowed through the field with the foursome of Arayia Maiben, Trinity Blue, Jordan Carr, and Hailey Dillow scoring the win in 1:44.60. Hurricane again wasn't far back in 1:45.32. Wheeling Park was 3rd in 1:46.54. Parkersburg was 4th in 1:48.47, just nipping Buckhannon-Upshur in 1:48.51. Spring Mills took the final spot in 1:49.20. One of my predicted placers got hit with the DQ.
RunWV's Current Score: 49 of 60.

4x400 Meter Relay
After one leg, it was Morgantown in the lead with Wheeling Park 2nd, Spring Mills in 3rd, Jefferson in 4th, and I think Parkersburg in 5th. After 2 legs, Parkersburg had moved to the front. Spring Mills was up to 2nd, Morgantown was in 3rd, Wheeling Park was 4th, Jefferson was 5th, and Buckhannon-Upshur was in 6th. On the 3rd leg, Wheeling Park moved up to 1st with Morgantown 2nd, Spring Mills 3rd, Jefferson 4th, Parkersburg 5th, and Buckhannon-Upshur 6th. On the final leg, Wheeling Park had to fend off a late push by Jefferson, who got a great final leg from Lorelei Bangit, but fend them off they did, and the group of Mia Zecca, Maya Taggart, Abby Barki, and Marlee Porter scored the win in 4:08.65. Jefferson was 2nd in 4:09.65. Morgantown held 3rd in 4:10.66. Spring Mills was 4th in 4:12.49. Buckhannon-Upshur was 5th in 4:19.45. Huntington scored 6th from the 1st Heat in 4:21.40.
RunWV's Current Score: 54 of 66.

4x800 Meter Relay
Morgantown held the lead at the end of the 1st leg with Wheeling Park in 2nd, Preston in 3rd, Martinsburg in 4th, Jefferson (I think) in 5th, and Cabell Midland in 6th. After two legs, Preston moved into the lead with Morgantown 2nd, Wheeling Park in 3rd, University up to 4th, Jefferson in 5th, and Parkersburg in 6th. On the 3rd leg, Morgantown took control, coming through in 7:23 with Preston in 2nd in 7:30. University was in 3rd with Wheeling Park in 4th, I think Martinsburg in 5th, and I think Spring Mills in 6th. Morgantown would hold the lead through the finish to give the unit of Amelia Summers, Maddie Gump, Jennifer O'Palko, and Anna Lester the win in 950.57. What does it say for your depth when the top 2 finishers in the open 800 aren't on your 4x800 and you still win with relative ease? Goodness... Preston was 2nd in 9:56.91, which is only a surprise if you didn't think they would load it (and somehow I stupidly didn't use the loaded version in my picks...I should have known better). University held 3rd in 10:10.43 with Wheeling Park in 4th at 10:16.78. Spring Mills moved into 5th in 10:24.01 with Martinsburg held the final spot by just half a second in 10:27.48.
RunWV's Current Score: 60 of 72.

Shuttle Hurdle Relay
The Parkersburg team of Lily Wharton, Claire Tatterson, Kendal Domenick, and Addison Gherke scored the win in 1:05.68. Wheeling Park was an easy 2nd in 1:06.41. Jefferson was 3rd in 1:08.61. John Marshall was in 4th in 1:09.08. Huntington took 5th in 1:10.46, and Cabell Midland was 6th in 1:11.21. One of my predicted placers got hit with DQ for "hand on the line," one of a couple to get nailed for that this week.
RunWV's Current Score: 65 of 78.

High Jump
Brooke's Mara Pendergrast scored the win as the only jumper to clear 5'4. Wheeling Park's Jailah Walker and Capital's Sona Magassouba each cleared 5'2 in taking 2nd and 3rd, respectively. John Marshall's Camryn Mowder was 4th at 5'0. Jefferson's Briauna Goins and Huntington's Autumn Arthur got 5th and 6th, respectively at 4'8.
RunWV's Current Score: 69 of 84.

Hedgesville's Skylar Yates pulled off the win with a 10'1 vault. Hurricane's Hannah Wright, Ripley's Mya Phalen, and Morgantown's Morgan Ryan each cleared 9'6 in taking 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, respectively. George Washington's Faith Smith and Bridgeport's Sallyanna Hamrick tied for 5th at 9'.
RunWV's Current Score: 73 of 90.

Long Jump
University's Sierra Lahham had a top jump of 17'10 to take the easy win. In fact, all 6 of her jumps were good enough to win the event. That's impressive consistency. Buckhannon-Upshur's Chloe Cale improved her mark by almost a foot on her final jump to move from 4th to 2nd with a 16'9.25. Ripley's Tori Fisher was 3rd with a 15'11.75. Cabell Midland's Paige Murray-Shrader was 4th with a 15'11. Jefferson's Jordan Carr was 5th with a 15'9.50. Woodrow Wilson's Kyndall Ince was 6th with a 15'8.50.
RunWV's Current Score: 77 of 96.

Shot Put
Lincoln County's Lilli Ross actually won the event on her 1st throw with a 35'5.75. Huntington's Markayla Moore was 2nd with a 35'2.50. Huntington's Ravyn Goodson moved into 3rd on her final throw with a 33'8.75. Preston's Sierra Davis was 4th at 33'8.50. Jefferson's Hannah Shanley was 5th at 32'1.50, and John Marshall's Elle Ranney was 6th at 31'10.
RunWV's Current Score: 82 of 102.

Discus
Huntington's Ravyn Goodson became a 3 time champion with her opening toss of 120'6. Buckhannon-Upshur's Cameron Zuliani was a close 2nd with a 118'7. Jefferson's Hannah Shanley got a strong 3rd with a 116'2. Preston's Sierra Davis scored 4th with a 108'1. Parkersburg South's Hannah Kinzer won the tie-breaker to take 5th at 106'4 over Jefferson's Helena Radford.
RunWV's Current Score: 86 of 108.

The final score of 86 of 108 means that 79.6% of the people picked to place did indeed place. Congratulations to those that proved me wrong.
